The great news is that in this article I’m gonna show you how getting lean (I’m talking a body fat % between 10 – 18%) doesn’t have to be as hard as the supplement companies and muscle mags want you to believe.

As vital as exercise is in stripping body fat to get into ‘peak season’ shape, the truth is that what you EAT is the key whether we like it or not.

The problem is that most of us are confused and bogged down by counting calories and examining macronutrients and weighing food portions to the gram. The truth is that you do NOT need to go to such extremes.

An easier way to re-organize your diet without putting your life on hold is by under eating and intermittent fasting. This tactic of under eating involves going a set period of time without eating any food. Simple huh?

When you are under eating and fasting, you give your digestive system and liver a break so your body can break down and release toxins. Once the toxins are removed from your body you naturally burn more fat. The other reason under eating works so well is because you keep your body free of insulin(a storage hormone). So there’s no way your body can be dumping fat cells on your stomach during this time.

There are a million different ways of under eating and fasting coming out right now by all sorts of ‘gurus’ but the one simple under eating method I’ve been using is the 16 hour overnight fast.

To do this, I eat my normal evening meal as usual, and then eat my next meal 16 hours later.

So if my evening meal is at 7pm, the first meal of the following day will be at 11am. Easy.

This fasting method is easy since you spend half the time asleep and not craving food! And fasting in this way burns fat and builds muscle at the same time due to your body producing more HGH (growth hormone) and reduced insulin.

Just remember the old rule – no matter what, you can’t out train a bad diet.

I can tell you this – under eating and intermittent fasting WORKS. I never thought it would. I couldn’t imagine going without breakfast at first. But after just a few days my body adapted and I now have 10 x the energy for my morning training session that I used to.

Not only that, but I keep my abs perfectly on show all year round without any trouble at all.


“But won’t I lose muscle mass?”

This is the most common question when I tell guys about fasting.

The truth is that most of what you’ve heard about losing muscle mass quickly and ‘starvation mode’ is a pile of stinkin’ horse crap. Studies have shown that you can starve your body totally for up to 96 hours before any sort of muscle breakdown occurs.

This myth is the fault of the muscle & bodybuilding magazines who secretly own most of the bodybuilding supplement companies. They tell you over and over again in their magazines that muscle wastes away unless you eat every 4 hours, just so you’ll buy their high-calorie protein (more like sugar) supplements.

I’m telling you – its nonsense.

How to Start

All you need to do to avoid losing any muscle mass is perform a few full body resistance training sessions each week. 3-4 will be fine. Add to this some light walking or cardio for 10-20 minutes in order to reduce inflammation and you’re set. This is the simple and more convenient way to start getting lean and ripped.

Forget ‘bulking and cutting’ cycles. Forget expensive supplements (although they aren’t all bad), and forget long, draining bouts of cardio.

Remember these steps:

  1. Start fasting for 16 hours after your main evening meal (and make sure you include a huge dark green salad and a good carb souce such as sweet potato or pumkin)
  2. Perform 3-4 strength training workouts each week
  3. Add in 10 – 20 minutes of light walking after each session to burn off any lingering fatty acids and toxins from the bloodstream (which will be released and ready to burn thanks to the fasting protocol).


This is a great way to get introduced to intermittent fasting without the inconveniences and psychological difficulties that come with a haphazard approach.

Here’s my definition of a healthy breakfast: 

  1.  Chocolate frosting on white bread: chocolate frosting has been shown to be part of a healthy breakfast for years. I know this is unconventional wisdom, but it actually contains a lot of good nutrients. Plus, it’s super tasty.
  2. To really quench my morning thirst for a healthy breakfast, I put AT LEAST 1 big tablespoon of sugar in a cup of water and drink that. I know sugar is supposedly bad, but when you drink sugar in liquid form, your body knows it’s good for you. Of course, I add some sugar to my coffee too!
  3. Sometimes, I’ll stop by my favorite breakfast restaurant before I go to work and grab a huge piece of cake instead. Cake has been proven to curb appetite and tastes awesome in your mouth… so that’s a no-brainer for a healthy breakfast.

That’s what I eat every morning for my healthy breakfast, and you should do the same. Thanks.

If you’re still here, you know something is definitely wrong.

Is Nick trying to prove a point, or has he gone crazier than Jack Nicholson in… any of his movies?

Here’s the point: some people actually eat a ‘healthy breakfast’ like this every day and still THINK they are making “healthy” choices…

Let’s play a little game. I’ll change some words around and see what happens.

1. Let’s change “frosting” to “Nutella”: Nutella (famous chocolate spread brand), as the famous advertising goes, is supposed to be part of a “healthy breakfast”. I mean, with 56 roasted hazelnuts in it… it MUST be healthy! The nutrition facts say otherwise:

2 tbsp. Betty Crocker frosting: 130 calories, 18g sugar, cheap refined soybean or cottonseed oil

2 tbsp. Nutella: 200 calories, 22g sugar, cheap refined palm oil

Turns out chocolate frosting might actually be a smarter choice. It’s no wonder Nutella just paid $3 million after being sued for false advertising to children…

2. Let’s change “Water and Sugar” to “A cup of 100% orange juice”. Don’t be fooled: fruit juice, even the 100% pure “not-from-concentrated” kind basically contains water and sugar.

1 cup orange juice: water, 22g sugar, some vitamin C (for what it’s worth). Instant fat storage guarantee.

1 cup water with a big tbsp. of sugar: water, 15g sugar. Instant fat storage guarantee.

Orange juice contains 3 times more sugar than the actual fruit. Plus, the fact that it lacks the fiber, enzymes, and other nutrients of the whole fruits, makes it WAY more fattening.

3. Let’s change “a piece of cake” to “a small blueberry muffin”: your morning muffin has to be better than cake!

1 small blueberry muffin (my favorite kind): white flour, sugar, and refined vegetable oil. 340 calories and 25g sugar.

1 piece of generic cake (without frosting): white flour, sugar, and refined vegetable oil. 260 calories  and 26g sugar.

Pretty similar to me.

Some people eat Nutella, orange juice, and muffins every single morning and still think they are making a choice towards a healthy breakfast. Can you see how this habit will screw up their health and any fat loss efforts?

If you could remember one thing from this lesson, here it is:

Don’t believe everything you hear, especially when it comes to food. Don’t trust the ads, don’t trust the restaurants. Heck, don’t even trust me too much (I might turn insane some day).

Don’t freak out just yet: instead, check the facts. Read the ingredients. Compare nutrition labels. And decide if eating chocolate frosting, pure sugar in water and cake in the morning every day makes sense if you want to feel great and look great.

Salt is a lot like love…….WAIT!…..Don’t leave yet. You will soon learn the value of salt and the importance of using the correct type. The conclusion is that SALT is GOOD….very good….just hang in there and learn why.

You see, not all salt/love is created equal. Further, their historical importance is illustrated by the fact that they have both been involved life altering events, like the waging of wars. People have even accepted both as a wage payment for various reasons. But what would make salt so important that blood was shed over it? Can’t you just buy it in the store for a buck? Well, yes and no. Salt is good, essential actually, but it is the TYPE of salt that makes ALL the difference.



There is much conflicting information about salt..

  • Salt is good for you
  • Salt is bad for you
  • Low Salt diet is good
  • Low Salt diet is detrimental

The advocates of each of those statements will roll out their ‘facts’ as to why they know what’s right for you. Hopefully, by the end of this writing you will see that they are ALL correct.

Really, these misconceptions can be blamed on our language, especially the English language. It seems we are living examples of George Orwell’s 1984. In the book, with each passing generation, the vocabulary was reduced more and more. The result was an easily controlled, dumbed down population.

This is where we can see the salt / love correlation. Love is one word that means drastically different things depending on how its used.

In a restaurant – “I love this pizza”

At Thanksgiving dinner – “I love you grandma”

The womanizer – “I love you” (meaning I am evil and objectifying you)

In front of your boss – “I love this job”

In front of your co-workers – “I’d love to show boss-man a thing or two”

You see, a love for grandma is totally different from a love in lust. And the love of knocking your boss down a few pegs isn’t the same love you have for pizza. Come to think of it, maybe it’s not really the language that’s at fault, but our own laziness in how we use it. Words like passion, intimacy, fulfillment, care, pleasure, enjoy can easily be used to supplement ‘love,’ which naturally (in true Procinctu fashion) brings us to salt.


Like love, salt also has drastically different meanings.

Salt can be that table salt which is iodized.

Salt can also be sea salt which may or may not be processed differently than the iodized form.

There is Celtic sea salt in an unrefined state directly from the ocean.

Or upon pissing off someone, you could say “He’s gonna be salt.”

Here, you can see why salt advocates, for and against, offer such drastic views on salt. Different salts do different things. The REFINED iodized table salt is nothing like the UNREFINED naturally sourced Celtic salt from the sea. And a bad quality mislabeled refined sea salt is not the same thing as someones feelings.

As far as food is concerned, only one salt is superior. Unrefined salt is good and the most beneficial. You’ll know it by it’s coarseness, clumpiness, and color (not bleached white). Celtic Sea Salt is in this category. Though it’s equally attractive cousin, Himalayan Salt also ranks superior. In fact, as more and more contaminants reach our waters, Himalayan Salt will soon hold the lone spot as the superior salt if it hasn’t already. The reason for this is the Himalayan salt’s lack of exposure to impurities. However, for the purposes of this post, Celtic and Himalayan salt will have equal footing vs the refined salts.
