It’s Merely Christmas time again. It’s a time to get a day or more off of work. A time to overeat, overspend, and lounge around……
OK, what seems to be lost among all the Christmas ‘tradition’ is the actual Tradition of Christ’s Mass. Maybe I’m being too much of a scrooge, but I find a lot of the Christ’s Mass celebration to be hypocritical.
A lot of the very people who bash Christian values are all to quick to take advantage of the ‘holiday’ break. Again, they fail to realize that holiday is just a bastardization of saying ‘Holy Day’. Or maybe they are being disingenuous and know full well what they do. The more commercialism in Christmas, the less Christ there will be……clever.
However, worse than the people just mentioned above, are the actual Christians who claim to profess belief in God, yet only care to trivialize His importance. Too many of us Christians seem to misplace the significance of honoring the birth of Christ.
As these things run through my mind, I did what any normal person would do…..I wrote a poem. I think it’s the first one posted on this site, so I hope you enjoy (if you don’t, I was sleep deprived). Here is…
Merely Christmas
Merely Christmas, it’s here yet again.
One more excuse to get off of work.
Nights in the clubs, lookin’ at that ten
Out late, like Miley, check out her twerk.
No Midnight Mass this year though,
it’s far too tiring for me.
But to the couch, we will go,
instead, brainwashed by TV
Nevermind the Christians in the Middle East,
whom upon many bullets are fired.
For celebrating their Christ the King, a feast,
persecution they are perpetually mired.
But for me, look at all my gifts
This is what Christmas is all about
Navigating through all the family rifts,
and trying this year’s winter stout.
I know the reason for the season.
No, it’s not at all lost upon me.
It’s not like I’m committing treason,
but hey, check out my decorated tree!
The kids anticipate that special present,
we will overspend on playstation and ipad
For we live like royalty, im not a peasant,
and with the latest gadget, I’ll never be sad
Ah, the most wonderful time of the year.
I, of course, am referring to football.
Without it there would be less cheer.
c’mon ref, what’s up with that call?
Another Merely Christmas comes to an end,
It seems to have passed a little too fast.
But I was fulfilled I do contend,
even though my spirit was again left aghast.
The REAL Reason for the Season
In case the poem didn’t quite cut it for your Christ’s Mass Day, then we will finish with the Gospel. From the Book of Luke, this is the REAL reason for the season.
May you not have a merely Christmas, but a fulfilling time with your family in honor of Christ’s Mass.
