Militant Monday | Philosophy of Life

This week’s Militant Monday is a 24 minute audio clip, recorded in the 1960’s, by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. It should play automatically from this page. The following is a summary of this Monday’s topic, the Philosophy of Life.

“Good morning, God” ..or.. “Good God…Morning”      Which do we say when we wake up?

A normal person already works towards a goal or purpose in life. However, some people get caught up in the ‘absurdity of life’. An abnormal person will actually look for escape mechanisms and excuses…anything…to avoid finding the meaning of life.

As Bishop Sheen points out, there are 2 ways to get out of the rut.

1. Go out and help your neighbor. Those trapped in the absurdity of life, often only live for themselves. The easiest way out, is to love those whom you see. Visit the sick, be kind to the poor, heal the leper, etc. Our neighbor is not hell, but someone in need. By helping others, we hatch from the egg which conceals us.

2. Leave yourself open to experiences and encounters with the divine. These encounters will come to you from without. Our ears do not make the sound, eyes do not make what we see, stomachs do not make our food. Be open to receiving the divine, and we can fill the holes in our heads and hearts.

Let us not just reason, but ACT ourselves into the meaning and purpose of life. You would not be seeking God if you had not already, in some way, already found Him.
